Professional Sports is Making Headlines in Las Vegas

For years, Las Vegas has been a ‘dry’ spot in professional
sports. In the past couple of years, however, the city has been named the new
home of several professional and minor league sports. From the NFL to the NHL,
there is exciting news on the horizon for diehard sports fans.
Las Vegas—New Sports Teams Making Their Way to The City
LV Golden Knights NHL
Recently, Las Vegas was named the new home for the Golden
Knights NHL team. While an ice sport seems like an odd choice for a city in the
desert, the fans have welcomed the Golden Knights with a warm embrace.
The team started playing in the 2017-18 NHL season and joined the Pacific Division of the
Western Conference. After the mass shooting on Oct. 1, the team was set up to draft
its first team members. And during their first game on Oct. 10, they listed the
names of all the victims and first-responders of the shooting onto the ice.
That solidified the team as a new member of Las Vegas professional sports.
During the 2017-18 season, the Golden Knights played well
and won big, both on the ice and in the hearts of Las Vegas natives.
WNBA
Another area set for growth in the coming year is Las Vegas’ WNBA team. The Las Vegas
Aces play in the Western Conference for the Women’s National Baseball
Association and relcoted to Vegas right
before the 2018 season began. Previously the San Antonio Silver Stars, the team
made its way from Texas to Nevada and is
owned by MGM Resorts International, a fitting ownership considering its
location.
The Aces are a prolific
team, winning seven of their fourteen
seasons in San Antonio. They’re home to many power players including Becky
Hammon, and Ann Wauters. They announced the move to Las Vegas in December 2017.
Vegas residents are looking forward to having the star power
in the city in 2018.

Minor League in Summerlin
Summerlin too is getting some of the professional sports
action with a new minor league team, the Las Vegas 51s a Triple-A Minor League baseball
team. The team is set to make Vegas their home in 2019.
