#LasVegasStrong
On 10/1/2017, Las Vegas changed forever. It was the day of
the worst mass shooting in the history of the country. 58 people were killed,
and thousands of others injured by a hail of bullets coming from a shooter high
on the Mandalay Bay hotel.
Two months later, Las Vegas has continued to prove just how
incredible of a place it is. We have pulled together as a community focused on
rebuilding strong and offering support to those who need it the most. From
financial support to physical and emotional support, the #LasVegasStrong has
proven true.
Vegas Strong Benefit Concert on 12/2
One way the city has proven it’s ready to rebuild strong is through the concert on 12/2. Artists
including Boyz II Men and comedians like Jay Leno showed up to provide
entertainment in an effort to raise funds for the victims of the massacre.
The concert also showed the world that Las Vegas really is
strong, by enjoying the evening’s music and laughs in a big way. That kind of
relief makes us stronger and gets us
closer to the truth of how strong we can be. And as the entertainers raised
spirits they raised funds. The event raised over $700,000 for the victims and
their families.
What Vegas Strong Really Means
To us, Vegas Strong means strength unlike any the world has
ever seen. Yes, this has been one of the most emotional times in our city’s
history, but it has also revealed just how close we are as a community.
Visitors too have
shared their support for victims. After the shooting, memorials popped up all
along the Vegas strip, and visitors can be found on any given day laying down
flowers and saying their piece for the victims. Some are evening adding their
names to the big sign “In Memory Route 91.”
Truly, right from the start, “Vegas Strong” came through and
became the stronghold for everyone. Help came from every direction.
No matter what we face, Vegas will always be strong.
